About

Formerly a private estate, Van Vleck House & Gardens is owned by The Montclair Foundation. These private gardens are open to the public daily free of charge.

Mission

Van Vleck House & Gardens is dedicated to preserving for public enrichment the spirit and beauty of this late 19th and early 20th century house and gardens. Continuing the Van Vleck family’s commitment to the community and to horticultural excellence, the house serves as a center for non-profit organizations and the gardens are open to the public for display, education and research.

History

Three generations of the Van Vleck family lived on the property and developed the gardens for over 130 years. The gardens showcase a strong representation of ericaceous plants, with unusual cultivars of rhododendrons and azaleas. The main house that now graces the Van Vleck grounds was designed and built in 1916

Summer is here with beauty to be found on the property. Stop in on the next sunny day and enjoy a different take on the gardens. To see what is “in bloom” in the gardens this week click here

The Gardens are open to the public from dawn to dusk,
365 days a year, and are always free-of-charge.
