MONTCLAIR FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES FUNDING OF FALL 2007 PROJECTS AND NEW SPRING GRANTS CYCLEThe Montclair Foundation announces that its fall grant cycle awarded $43,000 in grants to eight local not-for-profit organizations. The Foundation is also accepting applications for its spring grants cycle.The latest Foundation grants included the following: COPE Center, Inc. was granted $10,000 to help provide general counseling, substance abuse prevention and treatment, family crisis counseling and parenting programs that serve local families. Hollow Day Care Center, Inc. will receive $10,000 in support of ongoing programmatic and professional development activities. Funding will also support the continued provision of after-school and summer day care for disadvantaged school-aged children. The Montclair Historical Society was granted $5,000 in support of its general operating budget. Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp. will receive $5,000 in support of the Summer Project Oasis program which provides a six-week summer evening program of education, sports, and life-skills programming for 150 young people. Sister to Sister of Montclair was granted $5,000 to support ongoing services and operation of its mentoring program for teen women. IMPACT Community Development Corporation provides academic support, leadership development programs, and communication skills projects for economically distressed youth and families. A $3,000 grant will help to support these efforts. To support the presentation of musical performances in the Montclair public schools, including workshop/discussion following the performances, Pushcart Players was awarded $3,000. ArtsPower, Inc. will receive $2,000 to underwrite a theatre program for Montclair public school students.
New applications for grants must be received by March 1, 2008 with awards being made in May 2008. Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations that meet health, educational, cultural, social service, and quality of life needs in the greater Montclair community. Grants are generally awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. No grants are awarded to individuals. Proposals received after the deadline will not be considered. In its 29 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $1,800,000 in grants to more than 60 local organizations. In addition to its grants program, the Foundation owns and maintains Van Vleck House & Gardens, a six-acre historic house and garden located on Van Vleck Street in Montclair. Continuing the Van Vleck family's commitment to the community and to horticultural excellence, the house serves as a center for non-profit organizations and the gardens are open to the public for display, education and research.
